Detroit Teen Killed in Wisconsin I-41 Crash

A Detroit teen killed in Wisconsin has left a community grieving and seeking answers. On Wednesday, the tragic incident occurred on Interstate 41 near Winnebago Street in Friendship, Fond du Lac County, around 9:32 p.m. Local officials reported that the 14-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, died after stepping into the lane of traffic from a partially stopped vehicle.

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded after an argument broke out among the four occupants of a southbound vehicle.

The vehicle, driven by 49-year-old Glenn Wheaton of Detroit, included two adults and two teenagers. Wheaton stopped the vehicle on the median side of the highway, leaving it partially in the traffic lane.

The occupants exited the vehicle to continue their argument. Tragically, the 14-year-old stepped into the active lane and was struck by another southbound vehicle driven by 20-year-old Evan Finnegan of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Emergency responders, including several area police and fire agencies, the county medical examiner’s office, and the Wisconsin State Patrol, rushed to the scene.

Despite their efforts, the teenager succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Interstate 41 remained closed for over four hours while authorities conducted their investigation. The driver of the second vehicle is cooperating with the ongoing inquiry.

Compensation at Stake for the Victim’s Family

In the aftermath of such a tragedy, the victim’s family may be entitled to various forms of compensation. These can include wrongful death benefits, funeral and burial expenses, compensation for emotional distress and loss of companionship, and financial relief for medical costs incurred before the teenager’s passing and the family’s pain and suffering caused by the incident. Seeking justice and accountability can be essential to closure during this difficult time.
