Detroit Woman Charged In Fatal Bus-Stop Collision

Detroit Woman Charged in Fatal Bus-Stop Collision

Detroit Woman Charged in Fatal Bus-Stop Collision has now been formally indicted on multiple counts following a tragic incident that claimed two lives last week. Dejah Latre Berry, 33, appeared in court Monday after prosecutors from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged her with two counts of reckless driving causing death and two counts of driving with a suspended, revoked or denied license causing death. The court set her bond at $50,000 cash or surety, and ordered her to wear a GPS tether and remain under house arrest until further proceedings.

According to the charging documents, Berry was traveling at a high rate of speed on Evergreen Road near Fenkell Avenue on April 25 when she lost control of her vehicle. Witnesses reported that her car veered across traffic lanes before striking 43-year-old Kwasi Agbottah and 41-year-old Elizabeth Agbottah, who were waiting for a bus. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to their injuries later that day.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy expressed outrage over the case, stating, “We’re dealing with drivers who behave as though traffic laws don’t apply to them, putting innocent lives at risk. This senseless action cost two people their future.” With public safety in mind, Worthy emphasized that the charges reflect the severity of driving without regard for human life.

A bond redetermination hearing is scheduled for April 30, followed by a probable cause hearing on May 7 and a preliminary examination on May 14. If convicted, Berry could face significant prison time given the life-altering consequences of her actions. Pretrial conditions include strict curfews and electronic monitoring to prevent any further risk to the community.
