Driver Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-94

Driver killed in wrong-way crash on I-94 early Friday morning after a devastating head-on collision in St. Clair County, Michigan. The tragic incident, which also left another driver critically injured, occurred just after 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of westbound I-94 and County Line Road.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received reports of a blue Dodge Charger speeding eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-94. The vehicle was traveling at a dangerously high rate of speed and headed directly into oncoming traffic. Before deputies could intervene, the Charger collided head-on with a Ford Explorer near Church Road in Casco Township.

The driver of the Dodge Charger, a 28-year-old man from Harper Woods, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the crash. The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 32-year-old Flint resident, sustained critical injuries and was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital for emergency treatment.

As a result of the crash, westbound I-94 was closed for several hours between Division Road/Fred Moore (Exit 257) and 26 Mile Road (Exit 248) to allow first responders to assist the injured, clear the wreckage, and conduct an initial investigation. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Team continues to examine the circumstances that led to the wrong-way driving and fatal impact.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the devastating consequences that wrong-way driving can have—not only for the driver at fault but for innocent motorists who become victims of someone else’s recklessness.

Compensation for Victims in Wrong-Way Crashes

In cases like this, the victims and their families may be eligible for significant compensation. Medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, long-term care needs, and emotional trauma are all elements that can be factored into a personal injury or wrongful death claim. If the injured driver is unable to return to work or requires lifelong medical support, the value of the compensation could increase substantially.
