Driver Killed, Passenger Burned in Macomb County Crash
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A tragic accident occurred early Sunday morning, August 4, 2024, at the intersection of Van Dyke Avenue and 15 Mile Road in Sterling Heights. An innocent driver was killed and her passenger suffered severe burns when a Dodge Charger crashed into a Ford F-150 stopped at a red light. The impact ignited both vehicles, resulting in a devastating fire.
The incident unfolded around 1:50 a.m. when the southbound Ford F-150, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Warren, came to a halt at the red light on 15 Mile Road. Without warning, a southbound Dodge Charger collided forcefully with the rear of the pickup truck. The collision caused both vehicles to burst into flames, with the fire quickly consuming them.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find that the driver of the Ford F-150 had tragically been pronounced dead. Her 30-year-old male passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital, suffering from extensive burns.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old driver of the Dodge Charger, a resident of Detroit, was found at the scene but refused medical treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that alcohol may have played a role in the crash. The Detroit man has been arrested and is currently held at the Macomb County Jail.
