Man Charged After Warren Chase Injures Daughter

Man Charged After Warren Chase Injures Daughter in a high-speed pursuit that also left a police officer hospitalized. The 33-year-old suspect, Michael Brooks of Eastpointe, now faces multiple felony charges after leading police on a reckless chase through Warren, which ended in two separate crashes.

High-Speed Chase Leads to Crashes

The incident began just before noon on Thursday, February 13, when a Warren police officer attempted to stop a Cadillac sedan near I-696 and Dequindre Road for a license plate violation. Instead of complying, Brooks sped off, leading officers on a dangerous pursuit down Mound Road.

As he approached the intersection of Eight Mile Road, Brooks ignored a red light and crashed into two other vehicles. The impact of the collision caused significant damage, putting multiple lives at risk.

Meanwhile, the pursuing police officer also lost control near Mound and Eight Mile roads, crashing into another object. Emergency responders had to extricate the officer from the patrol vehicle before transporting him to the hospital for emergency surgery.

Injuries and Arrest

Authorities confirmed that Brooks’ 12-year-old daughter was in the car at the time of the crash. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Child Protective Services (CPS) has been notified, and further investigation into her safety and well-being is underway.

Brooks was immediately taken into custody at the crash scene. Records reveal that he has an extensive criminal history, including prior convictions for fleeing police and drug possession.

Felony Charges and Bond

Following his reckless actions, Brooks was formally charged with multiple felonies, including:

  • Second-degree fleeing and eluding
  • Third-degree child abuse
  • Driving with a suspended license causing serious injury
  • License plate forgery

A judge set his bond at $100,000, given the severity of the charges and his previous criminal record.

Compensation for Victims

Victims of reckless police chases, including innocent motorists, passengers, and law enforcement officers, may be entitled to financial compensation for their injuries and losses. Compensation can cover:

  • Medical expenses (hospitalization, surgeries, rehabilitation)
  • Lost wages (if injuries prevent the victim from working)
  • Pain and suffering (emotional distress and trauma)
  • Property damage (repair or replacement of damaged vehicles)

In cases where reckless drivers or negligent actions lead to injuries, victims have the right to pursue legal claims against the at-fault party. If law enforcement procedures were not properly followed, additional claims may be investigated.
