Man Fatally Struck in Oakland County Hit-and-Run Accident

MADISON HEIGHTS, MI — A tragic Oakland County hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a 68-year-old man on Wednesday afternoon, leaving the community in shock. According to police, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:53 p.m. at a bus stop on Dequindre Avenue near 11 Mile Road in Madison Heights.

Authorities reported that a gold Toyota Camry veered off the roadway and struck the man as he stood at the bus stop. Instead of stopping to render aid, the driver fled the scene at high speed, leaving the victim critically injured. Emergency responders rushed the man to Corewell Health’s hospital in Royal Oak Beaumont, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police Locate the Suspect’s Vehicle and Make an Arrest

Following the crash, officers launched an investigation and began searching for the suspect’s vehicle. Within a few hours, authorities located the gold Toyota Camry and arrested the driver in connection with the hit-and-run. While police have not disclosed the suspect’s identity, they confirmed that criminal charges are expected. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials urge anyone with information to come forward.

Witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the incident are encouraged to contact the Madison Heights Police Department at 248-585-2100 or Detective Randolph at 248-837-2736.

Compensation Available for Hit-and-Run Victims in Michigan

Families of hit-and-run victims may be entitled to financial compensation for their losses. In Michigan, the surviving family members of a deceased victim can file a wrongful death claim to seek damages such as:

  • Medical expenses incurred before the victim’s passing
  • Funeral and burial costs
  • Loss of income and financial support the victim would have provided
  • Pain and suffering experienced by the victim before death
  • Loss of companionship for surviving loved ones

Additionally, if the driver was uninsured or underinsured, the victim’s family may be able to seek compensation through uninsured motorist coverage in their own auto insurance policy. Given the complexities of these cases, having an experienced attorney is crucial in securing full and fair compensation.
