Michigan Teen Driver Sentenced for Fatal Crash
In a tragic incident that shook the Livonia community, a fatal crash led to the sentencing of a Michigan teen driver. The crash, which occurred in January 2023, resulted in the death of Michael David Neu and caused serious injuries to six others, including Neu’s wife and their infant.
Nineteen-year-old Mark Wayne Goedge III of Washington faced the consequences of his reckless actions. He was sentenced to five to fifteen years in prison for one count of reckless driving causing wrongful death and two to five years for one count of reckless driving causing serious injury.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The tragic accident unfolded on January 29, 2023, at approximately 8:15 a.m. George, who was only 17 at the time, was driving a pickup truck northbound on M-53 (Cedar Street) near Borland Road in Imlay City. Traveling at a dangerously high speed, he lost control and struck multiple vehicles. The impact was devastating, instantly killing Michael David Neu of Livonia.
An Imlay City police officer, stationed nearby with a radar device, witnessed Goedge’s excessive speeding moments before the crash. The officer had just started to pull onto northbound Cedar Street when the collision occurred, rendering any intervention too late.
Impact on the Victims
The aftermath of the crash was severe. Neu’s wife, who was seated in the front passenger seat, suffered critical injuries. Their infant child, also in the vehicle, was among the injured. Additionally, three other individuals, including a man and a pregnant woman in another vehicle, were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities have indicated that all injured parties face a lengthy recovery process.
Compensation for the Victims
The victims of this fatal crash, including the Neu family and others involved, are entitled to various forms of compensation. This can encompass medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, loss of income, pain and suffering, and potentially punitive damages due to the reckless nature of the incident. Given the extensive injuries and long-term impacts, the compensation claims could be substantial.
