Six Injured in M-125 Crash in Monroe County

Six injured in M-125 crash in Monroe County were left in critical condition after a violent two-vehicle collision that followed a police pursuit on Thursday afternoon. The crash took place at approximately 2:27 p.m. in Erie Township, at the intersection of South Dixie Highway (M-125) and Luna Pier Road.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the events began when an Erie Township police officer stopped a white 2013 Ford Focus near Suder Road and Dean Road due to concerns about careless driving. As the officer approached the vehicle on foot, the driver suddenly fled the scene, prompting a brief police chase. However, the pursuit was quickly called off due to the suspect’s dangerous driving behavior.

Moments later, the fleeing vehicle, now heading north on South Dixie Highway, ran a red light at Luna Pier Road. It crashed directly into a gray 2012 Ford Focus that was traveling westbound through the intersection. The impact was severe, leaving all six occupants—four from the white Ford and two from the gray Ford—in critical condition. All were rushed to nearby hospitals in Toledo for emergency treatment.

Emergency response teams from multiple agencies, including the Bedford Township and Erie Township Fire Departments, Michigan State Police, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the Monroe County Road Commission, and Monroe Community Ambulance, responded promptly to the scene. M-125 remained closed in the area until approximately 6 p.m., according to MDOT traffic alerts.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division is leading the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact them directly at 734-240-7548.
