Tragic Fatal Crash Claims Life of Oakland County Man

A tragic fatal crash claims life in Oakland County after a 69-year-old man succumbed to his injuries two days following a severe accident over the weekend, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, which took place late Saturday night, has left the community in shock as authorities continue their investigation.

The collision occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Ortonville Road near Amy Drive in Independence Township. According to officials, Dwaine Paul McCutcheon was behind the wheel of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado when he pulled onto Ortonville Road from a private driveway north of Amy Road. His vehicle collided with a 2008 Honda Civic traveling south on Ortonville Road.

Authorities reported that McCutcheon was not wearing a seatbelt during the accident. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Initially, his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, but tragically, he passed away on Monday. The 25-year-old Holly man driving the Honda Civic wore his seatbelt and escaped the crash without injury.

While investigators do not suspect alcohol or drug impairment as contributing factors, they continue to analyze the circumstances surrounding the accident. Seatbelt usage remains a critical factor in crash survival rates, and this tragic incident highlights the risks associated with not wearing one.

What Compensation May Be Available for Victims?

In cases like this, victims and their families may be entitled to various forms of compensation depending on the circumstances of the crash. Surviving family members of the deceased may pursue wrongful death claims, which can cover medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future earnings, and emotional suffering. Additionally, victims could seek compensation for medical treatment, vehicle repairs, and lost wages if the crash resulted in injuries or property damage.

Even when a driver’s actions, such as failing to wear a seatbelt, may have contributed to the severity of the injuries, insurance policies—including Michigan’s no-fault insurance system—may still provide financial relief. A thorough legal evaluation can help determine the best action for securing compensation.
