Truck Driver Killed MDOT Workers Hurt in I-75 Crash Near Monroe

Truck Driver Killed MDOT Workers Hurt in I-75 Crash Near Monroe: Tragedy struck Tuesday morning when a truck driver was killed and multiple MDOT workers were injured in a serious crash on northbound Interstate 75 near Monroe, Michigan. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. in Frenchtown Township, just north of the I-275 split, and has left the community shaken and families seeking answers.

According to the Michigan State Police, the crash occurred while Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) road crews were actively repairing the left lane of I-75. As is standard safety procedure, two “attenuator” vehicles were positioned behind the workers to help absorb any impact from a potential rear-end collision. Despite these precautions, a large commercial truck failed to stop and slammed into the first attenuator truck, causing the vehicle to jackknife and strike the second protective vehicle.

The crash resulted in the death of the truck driver at the scene. Several MDOT workers sustained injuries, although authorities have not yet released detailed information on the extent of those injuries.

In the immediate aftermath, all northbound lanes of I-75 were closed at Exit 18 near Nadeau Road. As of 2:30 p.m., traffic remained blocked through Exit 20 at the I-275 interchange. This closure has led to heavy congestion along nearby routes, particularly northbound US-24 / Telegraph Road, as drivers sought alternate paths around the scene.

The Compensation Victims Deserve

When catastrophic workplace accidents like this occur, injured victims and their families are often left facing not only physical pain and emotional trauma but also financial uncertainty. Injured MDOT workers may be entitled to compensation that covers medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages, and long-term disability, depending on the severity of their injuries.

In cases involving a fatality, the family of the deceased truck driver may also have a right to wrongful death compensation, including funeral expenses, loss of future earnings, and emotional suffering. Both workers and their families must recognize that they do not have to navigate these complex legal issues alone.
