Truck Hits Child Outside Michigan Ice Cream Shop
Truck hits child outside Michigan ice cream shop—a devastating crash that left five people injured, including a 12-year-old who was simply waiting in line for a treat. The incident occurred Monday night at Dairy Bear in Howard City, a popular local spot known for its outdoor seating and family-friendly atmosphere.
According to the Michigan State Police, the crash happened around 7:40 p.m. when a southbound vehicle on Ensley Street turned directly into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. The truck, unable to stop in time, struck the turning vehicle and was sent careening into the ice cream shop’s outdoor seating area. The force of the impact caused the truck to hit two additional parked cars before it finally came to a stop.
Tragically, a 12-year-old child who was standing in line outside the shop was struck by the truck. Emergency responders transported the child to a nearby hospital. At this time, the child’s condition remains unknown. Four other individuals were also taken to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to more serious.
Witnesses at the scene described the moment as chaotic and terrifying. Families enjoying their evening treats were forced to run for cover as the truck barreled through the seating area. “It happened so fast—one second everything was normal, the next people were screaming and trying to help those who were hurt,” said one bystander.
In incidents like this, victims and their families may be entitled to compensation for a wide range of damages. These can include medical expenses, future rehabilitation costs, emotional distress, pain and suffering, lost wages, and even loss of enjoyment of life. When a child is involved, as in this case, the emotional and financial toll can be even greater—impacting not just the injured child but the entire family.
