Two Teens Sustain Critical Injuries in Vehicle Rollover Incident

Two Teens Sustain Critical Injuries in Vehicle Rollover Incident early Sunday when a 2018 Nissan Rogue lost control and overturned multiple times on US-23 near Geddes Road in Washtenaw County’s Ann Arbor Township. According to the Michigan State Police Brighton Post, the single-vehicle crash occurred just before 3:00 a.m., sending both occupants to Trinity Health–University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor for emergency care.

The driver, a 17-year-old Ypsilanti resident, was ejected from the SUV during the violent rollover. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition under close observation. Meanwhile, the 16-year-old female passenger was trapped inside the wreckage when first responders arrived. Firefighters freed her from the vehicle’s crushed frame, and she was also transported to Trinity Health. Hospital officials later reported that she is in stable condition, though she continues to receive intensive treatment for serious injuries.

Preliminary findings from state troopers indicate that the Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound on US-23 when the driver apparently lost control, crossed the median, and flipped into the northbound lanes. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof. The Michigan Department of Transportation shut down northbound US-23 at Geddes Road from approximately 3:00 a.m. until 6:45 a.m. while tow crews and investigators cleared debris and conducted a thorough on-scene examination.

The crash remains under active investigation. Troopers are urging anyone who witnessed the rollover or has dash-cam footage to contact the Brighton Post at (810) 227-1051. Authorities hope that additional information will help determine whether weather conditions, speed, mechanical failure, or another factor contributed to the loss of control.

Beyond the immediate physical trauma, rollover collisions often leave victims and their families grappling with substantial financial burdens. Medical bills can skyrocket into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, covering emergency transport, surgeries, rehabilitation, and ongoing care. Victims may also face loss of income during recovery, long-term disability expenses, and significant emotional distress.
