The sequence of events began when two Warren police officers, fully uniformed and in a marked patrol car, were patrolling near 8 Mile and Ryan roads. The officers observed three Dodge Chargers speeding westbound on 8 Mile Road. When the officers activated their lights, the three Chargers failed to stop and continued their high-speed escape.
Two of the Chargers veered west on 8 Mile Road and then turned northbound on Ryan Road. At the intersection of 10 Mile Road and Ryan Road, the two Chargers turned left and continued westbound, with police in hot pursuit.
Tragically, on 10 Mile Road west of Dequindre Road, a Charger driven by a 26-year-old man collided with a Jeep Cherokee, an uninvolved vehicle. The impact resulted in the death of a 42-year-old female passenger in the Jeep, while the driver of the Jeep sustained injuries.
The aftermath saw the driver of the Jeep, the driver of the Dodge Charger, and two other passengers in the Charger being transported to a nearby hospital. All individuals were listed in stable condition. The 26-year-old driver was taken into police custody following the crash.
Authorities are diligently working to identify the driver of the second Charger involved in the pursuit. Meanwhile, the third Charger returned to the scene, with its occupants cooperating with investigators.
In a press release, Warren police emphasized the measures taken during the pursuit: “Like every police pursuit, this pursuit was closely monitored in real-time by patrol supervisors.
Traffic was light throughout the entire pursuit, which lasted approximately three minutes. This is an active and ongoing investigation, with investigators canvassing for additional video along the path of the pursuit.”
In such a fatal crash, victims and their families may be entitled to various forms of compensation. The types of compensation at stake include medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
