Wrong-Way I-94 Crash: Driver Arrested, Two Injured
Wrong-Way I-94 Crash: Driver Arrested after early-morning head-on collision leaves two injured. The wreck occurred at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday along eastbound Interstate 94 near mile marker 107 in Calhoun County, Michigan.
According to deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, a 50-year-old man from Lansing was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when his pickup collided with an oncoming passenger vehicle. Both occupants of the second vehicle sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall for treatment and observation.
Investigators on scene determined that the pickup driver exhibited signs of severe intoxication. Field sobriety tests and subsequent chemical analysis confirmed that alcohol was a contributing factor in the wrong-way maneuver that precipitated the collision.
Following standard procedure, Calhoun County deputies placed the driver under arrest and booked him into the Calhoun County Jail on charges including operating while intoxicated and reckless driving. His mug shot and booking details will be made public through the sheriff’s office.
MDOT traffic reports indicate that all eastbound lanes of I-94 were closed for roughly one hour as first responders cleared debris and assisted the injured. Commuters were detoured via exit ramps and adjacent local roads, leading to temporary delays in both directions.
Multiple agencies collaborated at the scene: Marshall City Police Department, Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, Marshall Township Fire Department, and the Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority all provided critical support. Their coordinated efforts ensured that victims received rapid medical care and made the highway safe for reopening.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact Lieutenant Curtis Smith at 269-781-0880. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
Victims in collisions like this may be entitled to various forms of compensation, including coverage for medical bills, rehabilitation costs, lost wages from time off work, and damages for pain and suffering. In more severe cases, families can recover for long-term disability, emotional distress, and loss of consortium. By securing full and fair restitution, injured parties can focus on healing without the burden of financial uncertainty.
