Macomb Father Dies Two Weeks After Uber Crash
A Macomb father, David Shutt, tragically passed away on January 2, 2025, two weeks after being involved in a severe collision with an Uber driver on Hall Road in Macomb Township. Shutt, 55, was on his way to run errands when his vehicle was struck by an Uber driver traveling at high speed on the grassy shoulder. The crash occurred on December 19, 2024, leaving Shutt with life-threatening injuries.
Although the Uber driver and their passenger sustained only minor injuries, the third vehicle in the crash escaped unscathed. Sadly, Shutt’s injuries proved fatal, and he succumbed to them two weeks after the accident. His passing has left his family devastated.
David Shutt, known affectionately as “Fuzzy” because of his signature mustache, was a beloved father and grandfather. His daughter, Jessica Hartman, shared that he had been a devoted grandfather to his young grandson, Zach. His family and the community deeply feel his loss deeply feel his loss.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, Shutt’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and support the financial needs of those affected by his untimely passing. The family’s outpouring of love for Shutt is a testament to the kind of man he was – warm, caring, and dedicated to his loved ones.
When tragedies like this strike, victims and their families may be entitled to compensation for various losses, in this case, the family could potentially seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, and the emotional pain caused by the sudden loss of a loved one. Non-economic damages, such as emotional distress and loss of companionship, may also be considered as part of the compensation.
However, dealing with insurance companies can be complicated, particularly in accidents involving rideshare drivers like Uber. In these cases, the insurance process often involves navigating multiple policies, including Uber’s liability coverage, the driver’s insurance, and the injured parties’ insurance. This can be overwhelming, especially when families are grieving.
