Felonies and Misdemeanors

Do you Know the Charges? Call Now for Help!

Felonies are considered to be the most serious types of crimes and are commonly defined as any crime punishable by more than one year in prison. Unlike misdemeanors, defendants convicted of felonies often serve their sentences in a state or federal prison rather than a local, city or county jail. Most importantly, if you are charged with a felony or a misdemeanor, do not make any statements about the incident(s) to any person until you speak to an attorney.

Misdemeanor offenses are more serious than petty offenses; however, they are less serious than felonies. Often times, the difference between being charged with a felony or misdemeanor depends greatly upon several small yet crucial details. If you are convicted of a misdemeanor, your punishment will likely be a fine and/or jail time not to exceed one year. If a jail sentence is imposed, it is likely that it will be served at a local, city or county jail rather than a state or federal prison.

If you or a loved one is facing either a felony or misdemeanor charge, retain an attorney immediately, and make no statements to anyone until you have had an opportunity to discuss the matter with your attorney.
