Two Injured in Troy Three-Vehicle Accident Linked to Drunk Driving
TROY, MI — Two injured in a Troy three-vehicle accident have been linked to a suspected drunk driver, according to police reports. The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, near the intersection of John R. and Big Beaver roads.
While authorities have yet to release detailed information about the crash, it was confirmed that two of the drivers sustained minor injuries. Officers interviewed the injured individuals, who described the chaotic scene following the collision.
The third driver, a 62-year-old Sterling Heights resident, quickly became the focus of the investigation. Officers observed clear signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and the odor of alcohol. When subjected to field sobriety tests, the man failed to demonstrate sobriety. A preliminary breath test revealed a staggering blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .22 percent—nearly three times Michigan’s legal limit of .08 percent.
Subsequent tests conducted at the Troy Jail further confirmed the driver’s BAC ranged between .26 and .27 percent, cementing his culpability. He was charged with operating a vehicle with a BAC of .17 percent or higher, as well as failing to maintain assured clear distance. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect.
Types of Compensation at Stake
Victims injured in accidents caused by intoxicated drivers may be entitled to pursue several forms of compensation. This includes medical expenses for treatment and rehabilitation, lost wages from missed work, and damages for pain and suffering. In cases involving gross negligence, such as drunk driving, victims may also be eligible for punitive damages intended to penalize the offender and deter similar behavior.
These claims often hinge on establishing liability, which is straightforward in cases involving intoxicated drivers with documented BAC violations. However, securing full and fair compensation requires meticulous documentation and legal expertise, especially when dealing with insurance companies that might attempt to minimize payouts.
