Detroit Chase Ends in Crash Over Suspected Stolen Marijuana
A Detroit chase ends in crash after a burglary suspect led police on a high-speed pursuit, ultimately slamming into a home in the early hours of Saturday, March 22, 2025.
The incident began just before 2 a.m. when police responded to a reported break-in at a marijuana distribution center located along Dequindre Road. Officers arrived quickly, accompanied by the business owner, only to find evidence that the burglary had occurred moments earlier. Surveillance and patterns from previous burglaries pointed authorities to a suspect possibly driving a Chevrolet pickup truck.
As law enforcement canvassed the surrounding area, a Warren police officer spotted a vehicle matching the suspect’s description near Dequindre and I-696. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver—later identified as 29-year-old Dijon Tyree of Detroit—refused to comply, prompting a police pursuit.
The chase continued into Detroit city limits, reaching dangerous speeds and putting the public at risk. The pursuit ended violently near the intersection of Livernois and Davidson, where Tyree lost control of the truck and crashed into an unoccupied home. Thankfully, no one inside the residence was injured, but the property sustained considerable damage.
Upon arrest, officers discovered what they described as “a large amount” of marijuana in Tyree’s vehicle, leading investigators to believe it may have been stolen during the break-in. Tyree was taken into custody without further incident and now faces multiple charges, including burglary, fleeing and eluding police, and possession of suspected stolen property.
Property Damage and Victim Compensation
While no physical injuries were reported, the homeowners whose residence was struck during the crash likely face thousands of dollars in repairs. In situations like this, victims may be entitled to compensation for property damage, emotional distress, and even temporary displacement from their homes. Insurance may cover some costs, but when the damage is tied to a criminal act, victims often face complex claims processes that require legal guidance.
