Wrong-Way Crash Kills Woman, Injures Teen

Wrong-Way Crash Kills Woman when a 26-year-old Oxford resident veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Hummer H3 driven by a 16-year-old boy on Baldwin Road near Seymour Lake Road in Brandon Township late Saturday night. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the female driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lane at approximately 11:41 p.m. when her Chrysler HHR struck the teen’s vehicle. Emergency responders rushed both drivers to nearby hospitals; sadly, the young woman succumbed to her injuries, while the boy, who was wearing his seat belt, suffered non-life-threatening trauma and remains under medical care.

Deputies on the scene noted that the woman was not buckled in at the time of impact, a factor investigators believe may have contributed to the severity of her injuries. Preliminary findings also suggest that alcohol could have played a role, though toxicology results are pending. The crash remains under active investigation as sheriff’s detectives work to piece together the events leading up to this tragic collision.

As personal injury attorneys specializing in motor vehicle accidents, we understand how a moment can irrevocably alter lives. In cases like this, compensation may cover medical bills, funeral expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering for surviving families and injured parties. Wrong-way collisions typically involve complex liability issues—ranging from impaired driving to roadway design defects—and require thorough investigation to determine all at-fault parties.

At Mihelich & Kavanaugh, PLC, our experienced team of litigators and investigators will take immediate action to gather critical evidence: police reports, witness statements, accident scene reconstructions, and any available video footage. We work closely with medical experts to document the full extent of physical and emotional injuries, ensuring no aspect of our clients’ losses is overlooked. We aim to secure compensation that reflects both the tangible costs—such as hospital and rehabilitation fees—and the intangible impacts, including emotional distress and diminished quality of life.

When tragedy strikes, families often face overwhelming financial and emotional burdens. We are committed to guiding clients through every step of the legal process with compassion and clear communication. From filing claims with insurance companies to initiating lawsuits, if necessary, we advocate tirelessly on behalf of those affected by negligent or reckless behavior on the road.

In addition to pursuing damages for medical expenses and funeral costs, we also explore claims for punitive damages when the facts warrant—particularly in instances involving alcohol impairment or gross negligence. Punitive awards serve not only to penalize at-fault drivers but also to deter similar conduct in the future.
