Detroit Police Hunt Driver After Crash Kills Two Women

Detroit Police Hunt Driver After Crash Kills Two Women. An intensive investigation is underway following a tragic hit-and-run collision in Detroit that claimed the lives of two women in the early hours of Friday, April 25.

According to authorities, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a white 2017 Audi A4 collided with a silver Hyundai Tucson near the intersection of Lahser Road and Keeler Street. After the impact, the Audi’s operator exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leaving both occupants of the Hyundai Tucson critically injured.

First responders arrived within minutes and provided emergency aid. The Hyundai driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to severe trauma sustained in the crash. The precise sequence of events leading up to the collision remains unclear, and Detroit Police Department detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage.

Officers from the DPD’s Fatal Squad Unit are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted by calling 313-596-2260, contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP, or visiting DetroitRewards.tv. Investigators believe additional eyewitness accounts and video evidence from home or business security systems could prove critical in identifying and apprehending the fleeing driver.

Hit-and-run incidents not only devastate families but also raise complex legal and financial questions for victims’ loved ones.

The families of these two women may be eligible for a range of compensatory damages, including reimbursement for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, lost income, and non-economic damages such as pain and suffering or loss of companionship. Under Michigan law, hit-and-run drivers face criminal penalties. Still, survivors and bereaved families have a separate right to pursue civil claims against negligent motorists, insurance carriers, or other responsible parties.
