Monroe Pedestrian Critically Hurt in I-75 Hit-and-Run

Monroe Pair Critically Hurt in I-75 Hit-and-Run late Saturday night are now fighting for their lives, following a devastating hit-and-run incident near Exit 15 on Interstate 75 in Frenchtown Township, Monroe County, Michigan.

The crash occurred around 9:44 p.m. as 40-year-old Connie L. Cosby and 40-year-old Anthony R. Keister, both Monroe residents, were walking northbound along North Dixie Highway. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the pair was suddenly struck by a blue, four-door Ford sedan traveling northeast on the same road.

The impact of the crash was severe—Cosby was thrown into the center turn lane, while Keister landed in the northeast-bound lane. Emergency responders rushed both victims to Corewell Health Trenton Hospital in Trenton, where they remain in critical condition.

The driver of the Ford did not stop to assist the injured pedestrians and fled the scene. However, the vehicle’s driver-side mirror was left behind and has since been recovered by investigators. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver appeared to be operating the vehicle erratically before the crash.

Responders from the Frenchtown Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance arrived quickly to assist. Additionally, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Victim’s Service Unit is involved in providing support to victims and their families during this traumatic time.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division is actively investigating the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward by contacting the division at 734-240-7541 or submitting an anonymous tip to CrimeStoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.

Compensation and Legal Support for the Victims

In hit-and-run cases like this one, victims and their families may be entitled to several forms of compensation, including medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and long-term rehabilitation costs. When a negligent driver flees the scene, it adds another layer of trauma and injustice to an already heartbreaking situation.

At Mihelich & Kavanaugh, PLC, we understand how overwhelming these situations can be. That’s why we step in not only as legal advocates but also as compassionate partners in recovery. Our legal team works tirelessly to uncover the truth, locate the responsible party, and pursue every possible avenue of compensation, even when the driver cannot be immediately found. We help victims navigate their options, which may include filing a claim through their own uninsured motorist coverage or pursuing a civil lawsuit once the offender is identified.

We understand that no amount of compensation can undo the damage, but securing financial support can help alleviate some of the burden during a long and painful recovery process. Our mission is to ensure that our clients receive the justice and support they deserve.
