Driver Ejected and Injured in Rollover Crash at I-96 & M-39
A driver ejected and injured in a rollover crash early Friday morning was rushed to the hospital after a violent accident on Interstate 96 in Metro Detroit. According to the Michigan State Police, the crash occurred around 1 a.m. in the eastbound lanes I-96 near the M-39 ramp in Wayne County.
Authorities received multiple 911 calls reporting the incident, prompting a swift response from the Detroit Regional Communications Center. When troopers arrived at the scene, they found the driver lying on the roadway, having been thrown from his vehicle due to the force of the crash.
Crash Details and Investigation
The initial investigation revealed that the driver, a 30-year-old man from Detroit, was operating a GMC Yukon when he lost control and struck the center median. The SUV rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop in the left and center lanes of I-96. The impact ejected the driver onto the road, leaving him seriously injured.
Emergency responders transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet released details about his condition. In the aftermath of the crash, police shut down several freeway lanes to thoroughly investigate and clear the wreckage.
Michigan State Police F/Lt Mike Shaw addressed the crash, emphasizing the importance of seatbelt use and safe driving. This crash is an example of what we are seeing on our roadways: A driver going too fast and losing control of their vehicle, and not wearing a seatbelt. Please keep your speeds down and wear your seatbelt, no matter where you are seated in the car,” Shaw stated.
Potential Compensation for Victims
Victims of rollover crashes, particularly those ejected from their vehicles, often suffer severe injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones, and internal organ injuries. These life-altering injuries can lead to extensive medical bills, lost wages, rehabilitation costs, and long-term care needs.
Under Michigan’s no-fault insurance laws, injured drivers and passengers may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, wage loss benefits, and pain and suffering if another party’s negligence contributed to the crash. However, securing full and fair compensation can be challenging without legal assistance.
