Drunk Driver Hits Pedestrians and Parked Cars in Westland
WESTLAND, MI — A suspected drunk driver is now confronting over a dozen serious charges following a deliberate incident on Saturday night where she struck two pedestrians and several parked cars in a Westland neighborhood.
April Marie Graves, 43, of Westland, was reportedly driving recklessly while intoxicated in the vicinity of Wildwood Street and Ford Road.
On that fateful evening, Graves accelerated and deliberately crashed into two individuals who were unloading groceries from their vehicle. This horrific act resulted in the man, aged 32, being pinned between the two cars, leading to the amputation of part of his leg, as reported by WXYZ.
In addition to hitting the pedestrians, Graves also collided with multiple parked vehicles along Wildwood Street. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Graves seated in her car near one of the collision sites. Her actions not only caused severe injuries but also significant property damage.
Graves now faces a multitude of charges, including:
- Two counts of assault with intent to murder
- Two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder by strangulation
- Operating while intoxicated causing serious injury
- Reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function
- Two counts of malicious destruction of building ($1,000 or more but less than $20,000)
- Two counts of malicious destruction of personal property ($1,000 or more but less than $20,000)
- Two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (Felonious assault)
- Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a police officer
- Open container of alcohol in a vehicle
Graves has been detained with an $850,000 bond, and her next court appearance is scheduled for August 22.
